Scripture: Jeremiah 32:16-25

Jeremiah, one of the prophets of the Old Testament, finds himself in a distressing situation.

The Kingdom of Judah is in the midst of being taken over by the Babylonian Empire, and the people will soon be exiled. While this is taking place, God tells Jeremiah to buy a piece of land…in the land being conquered by the Babylonians. But why would God tell Jeremiah to do this?

Why buy a piece of land that soon won’t be yours? Jeremiah’s prays to God, expressing his amazement at God’s character and his confusion about his call to buy this land. God doesn’t give Jeremiah all the answers, but he does provide him with a message of hope and a reminder that God’s ultimate purpose for his people is their good.
