BAPTISM

ISAAC CHENG

Isaac I Just Got Baptized

Hi, my name is Isaac Cheng. I was born into a Christian family, and knew about God, but every time I went to church, I would always go through the motions, not really paying attention to what was being taught. This continued for quite a while until 2021 when hearing a pastor’s sermon, I suddenly heard something that caught my attention, and from then on I started paying attention. How ironic because that day was a baptism day. Soon after I started thinking about baptism like I felt a small urge to get baptized, but I always pushed it away, and soon forgot about baptism all together.

In 2023 I started talking to God, and through that I experienced God, and I finally knew that he was real. Soon afterwards I heard God asking me to get baptized, but just like 2021 I pushed it aside. I told God that I believed in him, but I was afraid of the crowd. I did not think that there was anything that God could do to get me to get baptized, but the fact I am standing here shows that God can do anything. After a while the urge subsided, and I forgot about it altogether, but I was wrong.

Nearing the end of 2023 one of the Sunday youth teachers brought up the subject of Baptism. And just like before I felt a slight urge to get baptized, but I just pushed it away, and did not give it much thought at class. But later when I was back home I thought about it a lot. But once again I told God that I would not get baptized because I was afraid of the crowd, and that no one I know would go with me, but God kept on insisting for the whole week. On Sunday next week Pastor Kevin brought up the subject of baptism, and once again, I did not give it much thought, but as we were leaving the class my best friend Faith told me that she was thinking about getting baptized, so I told her that I was also thinking about getting baptized. When I was back home and in bed I thought about it a lot, and then I realized that God was showing me the way past my fear. Of course I will still be afraid of the crowd, but I won’t be alone.

I have decided to get baptized, because I want to follow God for the rest of my life. I would like to thank my family for being there for me, and supporting me. I would also like to thank Pastor Kevin for bringing up the subject of baptism because without it I probably would never have known that my friend was thinking about baptism, and never had the courage to go. I would like to thank my friends for always being there for me. I would like to thank everyone for being here and hearing my testimony. Lastly I want to thank God for being patient with me even when I would not listen to him. As Luke 1:37 says- For nothing will be impossible with God, and 2 Corinthians 5:7 also says – For we walk by faith, not by sight.
