When we think about our sin, we might think of it like being adrift in an ocean. If we can just hold on and let Jesus throw us a life-preserver, we’ll overcome its effects.
But here’s the reality. You and I aren’t just spiritually adrift. According to the Bible, you and I are spiritually dead!
This means that we’re not floating adrift in the ocean. It means that we’ve already drowned! We’re spiritually lifeless, we’re lying on the ocean floor.
And what you need isn’t for Jesus to throw you a life-preserver. What you need is for Jesus to give you life, to make you a new person, to make you spiritually alive.
