KOSALINA VIGNARAJAH
Whenever someone asks me how I became a follower of Jesus, I cannot point to an exact moment, because I know that even before I believed in God, He chose me as His own. However, there is one particular childhood memory that is etched in my heart. It was warm summer evening, my friend, her mom and I were sitting by the ocean. Suddenly, aunty asked us, “What do you do when you wake up?” We were answering her, but she kept asking us “no, before that, what is the first thing you do as you wake up?” We eventually gave up. That is when she told us both that the first thing we should do is Pray; Pray to God and thank Him for the new day.
That conversation left a huge impact on me. The very next morning as I woke up, I thanked God for the day he has given me. From that moment on, I believe that God has been holding on to me and looking after me. My journey grew from knowing that God exists to believing in Jesus Christ.
I believe that Jesus Christ is my living Savior who knows me and calls me by my name. Jesus died for me on the cross so I could be forgiven and made new in Him even when I had nothing to offer. This purest form of love took away my shame and gave me a new identity and the promise of eternal life with God.
Today, I fully surrender my life to God, and I am committed to following Jesus now and forever. Even when I stumble and fall, my God never lets go of me. I want my life to reflect His truth, love and mercy while also being a blessing to others. To the King of kings who suffered and died on the cross for us, my baptism is a testimony to the love, grace and mercy I receive unconditionally. I choose to be baptized to proclaim that my God is the true and living God who gives us new life full of hope.
I am extremely grateful to the people God has placed in my life, my family, friends, and mentors who always inspire me to live in faith and demonstrate their faith in the way they live.
As I take this step in my Christian faith, I recall one of my favourite bible verses. Colossians 3:1 and 3, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God…. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
