BAPTISM

DERRIC ANDREI CABRERA

Hi, I’m Andrei, and this is my testimony.

I was born in the Philippines and raised in a Catholic family. As a kid, I went to church and Catholic school, and I believed in God—but my faith was more routine than real.

When I was 10, my life changed forever. My father died in a car accident, and shortly after, my mom had to leave the country to support us. I was left with my grandmother and started going down a dark path—rebellion, addictions, and getting kicked out of schools. I stopped going to church, stopped praying, and drifted far from God.

Eventually, I moved to Canada, hoping for a fresh start, but I carried the same pain and habits. I got in trouble with the law and fell deeper into depression. At my lowest, I tried to take my own life. I thought I was too far gone.

But God didn’t give up on me.

He used my uncle and aunt to reach out to me and bring me back to church. Though I wasn’t fully committed, it planted a seed. Later, after relapsing and hitting rock bottom again, I began hallucinating and was hospitalized. It scared me—and for the first time in years, I cried out to God in desperation. I asked Him to save me, and He did. My mom, her fiancé Zac and my family in the Philippines talked to me and made me realize that I wasn’t alone in this journey

Since then, I’ve given my life back to Jesus and I returned to school.

Last Christmas, I reunited with my aunt, uncle and my cousins—and went to church again, I cried during the service but this time it was filled with joy and gratitude.

Since that day, I decided I want the world to know that Jesus has redeemed me. I’ve been made new—not because I’m perfect, but because He is. Today, I’m choosing to be baptized as a public declaration that Jesus is my Lord and Savior.

Isaiah 12:2
“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”
