CHISA NWEZE
I was born in a christian based family but i never understood who Jesus was or why I needed to follow him. I just went to church just because I thought I had to. But I always found myself looking or praying to Jesus during my hard times even as a kid even though I did not know who I was praying to. But as soon as I had my answers, Jesus and I went back to being strangers.
But in 2021, I fell into extreme depression which had me crippled with fear, sadness, unworthiness, negative thoughts, for months Satan had me in his grip ,so one day , I went on my knees and just asked for a little peace to help me get through that day because I felt like I was not going to get through that day. That day, Jesus truly gave me a peace that passes all understanding and till this day, that peace is still in me. From that day, I decided to dig deeper to know this God who had given me the biggest peace and love.
Over the years, God had destroyed and has continuously reshaped My former understanding and knowledge of him through faith, the word ,praying ,sermons and changing my sinful heart and this has prompted me to keep following the footsteps of Jesus being ‘christ like” which has led to my decision to be baptized. My road to baptism has been eye-opening and mind changing and has caused a radical shift in my life.
I Never gave Baptism much thought because I thought it was a serious commitment and I was unworthy and unrepentant. But I realized in my walk with God, that God does not see us as we see ourselves , that God sees us in Christ Jesus. The ‘I’ in sin has been me living in my own ways and interests, but God has shown me that true repentance is stooping to move away from God but turning to move in God’s direction.
Through my faith, Jesus has touched my soul and has started to change me inwardly. He has used my family, friends, my small group members and also my Cornerstone brothers & sisters who has helped me show a physical representation of God’s love through my daily living and now with baptism.
According to John’s Message on baptism, Baptism is a Sign or show of our willingness to align our lives with God’s “coming kingdom”.
2 Timothy 1:9: For God saved us and called us to live a Holy Life. He did this, not because we deserved it.but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time- to show his grace through Christ Jesus.
