BAPTISM

BENSON PAN

If someone told me five years ago I’d be standing in front of this congregation giving my testimony, I would not have believed them. I did not grow up in the Church, but throughout my life, I had heard about Jesus yet I knew nothing about who He was.

Shortly after my first visit to Cornerstone, social distancing and lockdowns became the new norm, turning everything upside down for many, including myself. During that time, I found myself turning to video games and spending a lot of time in my own thoughts. I began questioning my purpose and wondering where I could find true fulfillment. I realized that I was trying to find my value in things like work and games, but I always felt something missing. It wasn’t until later that I began to understand my true value in God.

Fast-forward to last year, where after some encouragement, I decided to attend the Young Adult retreat. At the time, I had no idea what to expect, but I was excited to spend time with God outside of my regular routine. Experiencing the workshops, worship, and connecting with the group was a memorable experience. One workshop that really stood out to me discussed spiritual maturity by comparing being a 25-year-old Christian with being a 1-year-old Christian 25 times.

These experiences motivated me to take my faith more seriously and really get to know what it means to be a follower of Jesus. I feel the Holy Spirit working in my heart, deepening my desire to understand more fully the vastness of God’s love—especially knowing that while we were still sinners, He chose to die for us. During my baptism preparation, one verse that resonated with me was James 2:17, which says, “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” This verse cemented my decision to be baptized, as I believe baptism is a powerful expression of my faith and a personal commitment to follow God for the rest of my life. While I know life will have its ups and downs, knowing that I have God as my firm foundation fills me with peace.

I want to thank my friends and family for their support, and most importantly I want to thank God for His amazing grace and mercy.
