impact and Change
WEDNESDAY
Good morning!
We had quite the storm last night over the Cove. Intense lightning and thunder. BUT we are thankful it was at night and not during the day! Forecast on Wednesday was rain all day. But God is good-only a tiny bit of rain at playday!
Mornings are routine now. Wake for 7. Wash up and have breakfast and out for 8:15 for breakfast. Drive out to the office and Devo at 9:15. We need to remember that there are clients in counselling down the hall! Pastor Josiah was a bit loud and they had to close the door to our room!
Today was the first day of the Family Strengthening program. Simon went out to support and play with the family members while others were receiving intense counselling. They came from a northern community. Loss of 5 family members over the last while. They have been coming every couple weeks for counselling. We hear they are doing much better than when they started but also have a long way to go.
At Next Steps it was similar, although I found it harder to have conversation with some of the clients. Not all want to talk and make small talk as they are very hesitant and not trusting of new faces. That’s ok. We are there to support and help where needed. Some wanted computers which they were loaned from Northwind. One client was saying he was getting a new guitar and amp. The store had it and was to deliver it…
Somewhere.
He says he wants to play and has a good sense of rhyme and has written lots of “lyrics.” This gentleman also helps at Northwind and works a few hours daily, cleaning after everyone has gone.
We hear they are doing much better than when they started but also have a long way to go.
I went to help Wes with some networking – one of their staff, Tim, was tasked with pulling network wire to two new offices they were going to use. This means they are expanding the work – more offices means more work and support. But that means the needs are still great. Keep praying for the needs in the city.
The afternoon was to be Limbrick. Weather was calling for rain and thunderstorms. Staff decided to delay the visit and do a scaled back version. We headed out an hour later than usual. In between we supported a small local coffee shop (up shot coffeehouse).
PTL that when we went out, the weather seemed better and so we opted to run the regular play day! Limbrick is the largest of the complexes and had the most children. I am encouraged that the complex is better than I remember it; renovations have been done and improvements made so that the complex is cleaner, brighter, and a more welcoming environment.
I am feeling that when I look back from 2014 to now, I am seeing change and improvement. Northwind is having an impact on the community. Lives are being impacted and changed. We are glad to be a part of the work God is doing.
To finish off, we rested at the cove. Singing for a few hours and worshipping.
