BAPTISM

RACHAEL L

I was born and raised in a Christian family, so I already knew about God at a young age. As I grew up I attended Sunday School and Christian camps where I learned about God. Each year as I got older and my understanding grew, I feel that I could actually connect and build a relationship with Him. Recently I started to get more involved around the church and trying to connect with God and my community. I felt like my faith in God was pretty secure but had no thoughts about getting baptized yet.

It wasn’t until earlier this year, when a youth and also one of my friends got baptized. Since she was my age, it proved to me that if I was ready, I didn’t have to wait. I realized that you don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be committed and willing to grow closer to God. I hope that someone my age witnessing today’s baptism will realize that too. The next baptism opportunity was coming up at Easter and after talking to a close friend and to my parents, I decided to sign up but I felt my process and experience was rushed, which I knew it shouldn’t be.

After careful consideration, I decided that I should wait and be patient. It shouldn’t be rushed but a time to spend with God and listen to Him. To spend quality time with Him, just like you would for any other relationship you valued. I knew the next baptism would come soon so I started a Bible plan to understand the importance and significance in getting baptized. It helped me realize that we shouldn’t put ourselves in the center of our lives, but it should be God and others first. So as this one came around I knew that I would be ready to commit myself to God and publicly declare that I am dedicating my life to Him.

First I would like to thank some people who have played a huge role in getting me here. My parents, who have introduced me to God and have loved me unconditionally, have helped me and are always there to support me. My brother, who is annoying at times but I know he always has my back. Pastor Kevin, Anastasia and Bethany for always being open to talk to and understanding. My God family for always supporting me. To Tessa for always understanding and being a great listener. To Ashley for always being there for me and being my fun and loving sister. And to Hannah, my absolutely amazing best friend who has always been a rock in my life and open to talking, and for always showing me love no matter what.

Phillipians 4:13 – For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. He will always be there for me, through the thick and the thin, the whisper and the wind, the calm and the storm. He will always be there for me and always at the right time. Because He is our one true perfect God and Father. I hope that He will help me to show the same love and grace to others as He has shown me. Thank you!
