Cornerstone Christian Community Church is a non-profit, Christian organization. The Church operates a community centre-style facility that is open 7 days per week and serves the community whether through church on Sundays or other events and programs throughout the week. POSITION OVERVIEW
As Group Life Pastor, you will champion group life at Cornerstone, cultivating various relational “spaces” where people can grow as disciples of Jesus Christ in the context of group-based biblical community, in alignment with Cornerstone’s Vision, Mission and Discipleship Pathway. This includes pastoral oversight of the church’s 50+ small groups, along with various semester groups and life-stage groups.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead Core Group Life Leadership Team. Envision, equip, empower and offer care for the core leaders of various Group Life ministry functions (e.g. coaching network, Group Launch team, semester group leaders).
- Oversee Group Life Leadership Development. Identify, recruit, and offer continuous training and support for leaders across all areas of Group Life ministry (small groups, semester groups, life stage groups). Provide regular small group leader huddles, occasional leadership retreats, and one-on-one support for Group Life leaders as needed. Apply Cornerstone’s Leadership Pipeline system to ensure the development of leaders at every level of Group Life ministry. Resource and equip small group leaders and members through Cornerstone’s small group resource web page, newsletters, and curating relevant materials.
- Design and Execute Group Life Strategy. Provide group connection opportunities for the congregation. Continuously improve the design of the small group experience to ensure people are growing as disciples of Jesus in alignment with Cornerstone’s DNA. In partnership with the Discipleship Pastor, offer strategic learning opportunities (semester groups, workshops, recommended small group curricula, etc.) consistent with Cornerstone’s Discipleship Pathway ministry objectives.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preaching and Teaching: As gifting and capacity allows, you will have the opportunity to be part of our regular preaching team rotation. You will also have opportunities to teach various semester groups in alignment with Cornerstone’s Discipleship Pathway and ministry objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong evidence of a Jesus-centred life with a clear calling to pastoral ministry.
- Meets biblical qualifications for church leadership and is in agreement with Cornerstone’s Vision, Mission, Values and Statement of Faith.
- Preferred Master’s degree in theological studies (optimally with an emphasis on discipleship and missional spiritual formation)
- 3+ years working in a church or ministry environment (optimally in a large church setting), with significant experience providing leadership and oversight to small group ministries, including coaching leaders.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers.
- Demonstrated background in pastoral leadership and care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to preach and teach effectively.
- Self-motivated and self-directed, requiring minimal supervision.
- Strong collaboration skills; a high capacity for cultivating healthy relationships within a team setting.

- Must become a member of Cornerstone
- This role requires working on weekends and occasional evenings
- This role may involve occasional travel locally and globally
