Cornerstone exists not only make an impact for Christ in our local community, but in communities around the world. Global missions has become a integral aspect of Cornerstone’s ministry. Over 100 people have participated in our various short-term mission trips over the past seven years!
We approach short-term missions with the goal of long-term impact. For this reason, we have developed continuous partnerships with particular churches and communities. In sending our short-term teams back to the same places year after year, it enables us to build relationships and make a lasting impact in those churches and communities.
Partnership goes both ways. God has used Cornerstone to help connect Christian businesswomen with microfinancing in Nicaragua, supply food for orphans in Mexico, and conduct Vacation Bible School for kids in Honduras. But we have at least as much to receive from our partners as we have to give to them. Although not rich in material resources, they are rich in loving relationships, faith, hope, and joy. Through their example, we learn what it means to trust God, and through their friendship we find greater freedom from the grip of worldly values and pursuits.
Most of all, in serving the poor, our short-term mission team members find that they encounter Jesus himself (Matthew 25:31-45).
Cornerstone's Global Missions ministry is led by a group called the Missions Evangelism (M.E.) Team, supervised by Pastor Steve Shaw. The M.E. Team's mandate encompasses missions promotions, establishing policies/best practices for the church's global missions efforts, offering missions equipping/training opportunities and resources, championing Cornerstone's full-time missionaries, and enhancing long-term impact in our global missions partnerships.
Cornerstone currently has two long-term missions partnerships, one with Verbo Church and Christian School in Bluefields, Nicaragua, and one with the El Suazal Orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico.
